Ardurra is seeking a Payroll Director to join our team in Dallas, TX!
Primary Function:
The Director of Payroll is responsible for overseeing payroll operations, ensuring compliance with multi-state labor laws, prevailing wage regulations, certified payroll reporting, and tax compliance. This role requires experience managing payroll for field and office employees, handling complex timekeeping systems, and integrating payroll with project accounting. The ideal candidate will drive process improvements and ensure accurate, timely payroll processing while partnering with HR, Finance, and Operations teams.
Primary Duties:
- Payroll Processing & Management
- Oversee multi-state payroll for salaried and hourly employees, including field staff, engineers, and project managers
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, including overtime calculations, bonuses, and expense reimbursements
- Manage multi-state payroll operations and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage laws
- Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure adherence to prevailing wage laws, the Davis-Bacon Act, certified payroll requirements, and other local, state, federal, and territorial regulations
- Oversee tax filings, year-end reporting (W-2, 1099), and audits
- Maintain compliance with FLSA, DOL regulations, and payroll tax requirements
- Systems & Process Optimization
- Manage and optimize payroll software and integrate with project accounting and ERP systems
- Work with IT and Finance to enhance payroll automation and efficiency
- Implement best practices for payroll operations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Certified Payroll Oversight
- Oversee certified payroll reporting for government contracts and public works projects
- Work closely with project managers and HR to ensure compliance with labor agreements
- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor the payroll team, ensuring a high-performance culture
- Collaborate with HR and Finance to align payroll with company goals and employee benefits
- Financial Planning & Budgeting
- Assist in payroll-related forecasting, labor cost analysis, and financial reporting
- Work with Finance to ensure accurate labor cost allocation for projects
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required
- 10 years of payroll experience, preferably in the construction, engineering, or infrastructure industry
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred
- Proficiency in payroll and accounting software, Deltek and UKG preferred
- Experience with certified payroll reporting and multi-state payroll processing
- Strong Excel skills for data analysis and reporting
- Understanding of prevailing wage laws, Davis-Bacon Act, and multi-state payroll compliance
- Familiarity with project-based payroll, and government contracts
- Proven ability to manage a team and improve payroll operations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
