Full-time Teacher Assistant/Driver (TAD) needed for students with a variety of special education support needs in the Science-based Approaches to Independence and Life Skills (SAILS) program located at ACES Center for Autism Spectrum and Developmental Disorders (CASDD), Northford, CT. SAILS serves students ages 11-22 years old who demonstrate significant cognitive, social, behavioral, and communication needs. A strong emphasis is placed on functional life skills taught in our contrived environments. Students also learn through outings in the community where transportation is provided by the Teacher Assistant/Driver. Our TADs transport SAILS students to and from school then work in their assigned classroom each day delivering instruction in the areas of life skills, academics, self help skills, communication, and behavior support. This position includes a high level of training and coaching to ensure every staff is successful in meeting the needs of our students.
This position includes a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and paid time off.
Starting salary is $24.49 per hour
SAILS operates on a 190 day school year which begins in mid August. There is also a summer program which runs the month of July.
Qualifications
- Ability to work collaboratively on a student centered team of professionals.
- Willingness to learn as well as accept and incorporate feedback.
- Effective communication skills with coworkers, supervisors, and students.
- Timeliness in arriving to work and maintaining excellent attendance.
- Adherence to ACES and DOT requirements to maintain a V endorsement to transport students.
- Experience with students in grades 6-12 and transition age students with behavioral support and instructional support needs is preferred.
