Director of HR

I am running a confidential search for my client. They are a mid-sized, privately held construction company based in Denver that’s looking to bring on a strategic, hands-on HR Director. They’re growing steadily, with roughly 200 employees across field and office roles, and they’re ready for someone who can take their HR infrastructure to the next level—without losing the tight-knit culture they’ve worked hard to build.

This is a true leadership role reporting to the executive team, where the right person will have both a seat at the table and the autonomy to implement best practices that scale. They need someone who understands the nuances of working in a fast-paced, field-driven environment—and who’s just as comfortable in steel-toes on-site as they are in a strategy meeting.

What the Role Looks Like:

• Overseeing all HR operations: employee relations, compliance, benefits, training, and development
• Building and managing recruitment strategies to support ongoing growth in both skilled trades and back-office positions
• Acting as a trusted advisor to leadership, aligning HR initiatives with business goals
• Leading culture and retention efforts in a way that supports both the field and HQ teams
• Ensuring regulatory compliance (think OSHA, Colorado labor laws, and federal regs)
• Partnering closely with safety and operations teams on workforce planning and performance

Ideal Background:

• 7 years of HR experience, with at least 3 in a management or director role
• Prior experience in construction, manufacturing, or another labor-intensive industry is a big plus.
• Strong grasp of Colorado employment law, OSHA standards, and HR compliance practices
• Proven ability to build HR functions in growing companies
• SHRM or PHR/SPHR certs are helpful, but cultural alignment is just as important here
