What are the responsibilities and job description for the General and Company Management Fellow position at Arena Stage Fellowship?
As the General and Company Management Fellow, you will collaborate with the General Management and Company Management teams, Arena Stage staff, and guest artists to meet production needs on each show, from well before rehearsals begin to the week after Closing night. We are seeking a candidate who is interested in improving their management skills and is passionate about all the behind-the-scenes work it takes to put on theater. This Fellowship offers training for emerging leaders in arts administration and artist relations.
We will provide the fellow with opportunities to gain experience in:
- Facilitating the overall experience for approximately 400 guest artists (including actors, directors, and designers.)
- Coordinating housing and transportation for approximately 250 out-of-town guest artists.
- Preparing and processing both union and non-union contracts.
- Applying union guidelines in a LORT setting.
- Strategizing and budgeting for subsequent seasons.
- Maintaining the budget and tracking the finances for the General and Company Management departments.
- Promoting inter-departmental collaboration with the backstage, front of house, Box Office, finance, and marketing teams, among others.
Do you want to know how theater administrators collaborate with directors, designers, actors, and stage managers on large-scale shows? Do you wonder how much it costs to put on professional theater? Are you curious how and why artists will work in regional theater before and between working on Broadway? Do you like working with artists and have a passion for theater from multiple angles? If you can answer yes to any or all of these, you might like this fellowship for what it will teach you about contracts, budgets, travel arranging, backstage production, and hospitality, and all while getting a bird's-eye view of both locally produced and commercially enhanced (pre-Broadway) theater.
The ideal candidate for the General and Company Management fellowship will be a highly organized individual who can problem solve, work hard in various settings, and remain calm during potentially stressful situations. A solid understanding of Microsoft Office, as well as written and verbal communication skills, are essential in this role. We are looking for individuals that are excellent multi-taskers who thrive in a fast-paced environment while encouraging positivity!
Additional expectations: The position requires occasional evening and weekend work. The candidate must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
