For the expansion of our team, argenx is looking for a Director Market Access and Policy, Australia.
PURPOSE OF THE FUNCTION
The Director Market Access and Policy, will be responsible for leading pricing, reimbursement, market access, and policy activities in Australia, and execution across all payer and distribution channels. This will require navigation of a complex reimbursement, pricing and policy environment to ensure Australian patients have the opportunity to argenx therapies as early as possible.
As a member of the Australian Leadership Team the role will provide ongoing counsel on government policy issues that impact or could impact the business in Australia, champion local business needs within argenx, and collaborate broadly and effectively with broad range of internal stakeholders, including Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Legal and Communications at the local and global levels.
Additionally this person will be required to represent the company with senior elected and non-elected officials and serve as the primary market access representative with governmental agencies, professional associations, patient associations and the broader healthcare community.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the Market Access and Policy function and contribute to the business strategy as an active contributor of the Australian Leadership Team
Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of argenx disease areas and treatment across all therapeutic areas, including pipeline indications and products.
Lead the development of innovative pricing and access strategies for Australia that are of high quality, based on value delivered and that are fit for purpose
Support the development of health economic and outcomes analyses (CEA, BIA, burden of disease, etc.) required for access, working in collaboration with internal cross-functional teams in medical affairs and R&D
Develop and manage Australian HTA submissions by leading internal & external providers to ensure that Market Access deliverables are suitable for purpose & available in a timely fashion
Coordinate the negotiation strategy, with a clearly defined negotiation approach, in close collaboration with the General Manager and other functions as needed
Develop compliant communication tools to be used in discussions with payers
Support the development of an internal pricing infrastructure that optimally tracks product prices in-market, gathers competitive intelligence, and efficiently produces decision-support analyses (business cases, trade-off analyses)
Have deep country-level understanding of payer needs, decision-making approaches, strategies, and country reimbursement stakeholders and influencers
Establish and maintain effective relationships with select payers, advisors, key opinion leaders and other stakeholders
Provide analysis and strategic direction on political and policy issues
Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the Australian policy environment as it relates to health care and specifically rare disease policy and recommend strategic approaches to policy issues in support of argenx business.
Partner with industry organisations and lead initiatives when and where required to advance argenx business objectives in Australia.
Develop and manage a budget in support of Australian business
Liaise consistently and effectively with internal business functions including Commercial, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Legal and Communications demonstrating an ability to lead through influence
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Direct experience negotiating with payers and securing positive HTA outcomes in Australia
Ability to adopt quickly and effectively to challenges, find new ways of accomplishing objectives and adapt to new approaches of doing business
Exceptional analytical ability, with the ability to grasp highly technical concepts and to work within a deeply scientific environment and a penchant for using data to inform decision-making
Demonstrated track record of understanding and influencing complex policy environments involving multiple governments, different levels of governments, and how policy considerations are impacted by other jurisdictions
Ability to develop rapport quickly with diverse stakeholders, from elected officials and their political staff to officials in government ministries, academia and industry organisations
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills as well as effective presentation skills
Experience working within launch and commercialisation teams for therapies in the orphan and rare disease space would be an advantage
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively together within cross-functional teams and networks
Demonstrated communication skills, within a multi-cultural and multi-lingual global environment
Is agile and demonstrates adaptability, comfort with ambiguity, trust-building, and resilience
Derives energy from operating in a dynamic, complex, fast-moving, and frequently changing business environment
Demonstrable experience with project management, proactive planning, priority setting, and securing alignment

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE
7 years of relevant industry experience in biotech/pharma.
5 years Market Access & Pricing experience specifically involving specialty drug launches in Australia
Masters degree in Pharmacoeconomics, science, public policy, business, or other relevant field required.
