We are seeking a highly experienced UI/UX Designer with 8 years of experience in user research, interface design, and front-end development. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and industry-standard design tools including Sketch, InVision, and Adobe XD. This role leads efforts from discovery through delivery, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure human-centered design practices and WCAG compliance are embedded into every phase of the software development lifecycle.
The UI/UX Designer will guide user research, create journey maps, personas, and prototypes, and work closely with developers to bring designs to life in browser-agnostic, responsive applications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and execute user research throughout the SDLC, beginning with the Discovery phase.
- Design and conduct interviews, usability testing, and user observation sessions to uncover needs, pain points, and goals.
- Produce UX research artifacts such as personas, journey maps, mind maps, interview guides, and research summaries.
- Translate research findings into intuitive and responsive application flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes using Adobe XD, Sketch, InVision, or similar tools.
- Apply Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles to ensure accessibility, usability, and a seamless user experience.
- Design and develop responsive, cross-browser HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript front-end components.
- Collaborate with developers to integrate designs with back-end systems (MVC or similar design patterns).
- Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.X accessibility standards across all digital interfaces.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to iterative product development and user feedback loops.
- Advocate for UX best practices and guide stakeholders in user-centric decision-making.
MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Note: Candidates who do not have the mandatory skills will not be considered
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 8 years of experience in UI/UX design and front-end development.
- Expertise in conducting user research and producing artifacts such as Personas, Journey Maps, Research Finding Documents, Interview Guides, Mind Maps
- Advanced proficiency with standard UX/UI tools including Sketch, InVision, Adobe XD
- Strong experience in front-end development using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript
- Deep understanding of Human-Centered Design (HCD) methodologies and WCAG 2.X accessibility guidelines.
- Proven ability to translate creative design concepts into production-ready code in collaboration with development teams.
- Strong understanding of responsive design principles and performance optimization.
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and presentation skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in Agile/Scrum environments
- Familiarity with design systems and component-based design
- Exposure to content management systems (CMS) and JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular)
- Experience working in large-scale public sector or education environments, especially NYC DOE
