Job Summary
A plumbing helper assists licensed plumbers by carrying tools and materials to job sites, preparing work areas, measuring and cutting pipes, helping with the installation and repair of plumbing systems, including fixtures like sinks and toilets, while following safety protocols and maintaining a clean work area; they typically require basic knowledge of plumbing systems and tools, and strong physical stamina to work in confined spaces.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare work areas: Clear debris, expose pipes by cutting open walls, identify leak locations, and set up materials at job sites.
- Assist with pipe installation: Measure, cut, thread, and assemble pipes according to specifications, using tools like pipe cutters and wrenches.
- Install fixtures: Help with the installation of sinks, faucets, toilets, and other plumbing fixtures.
- Drain cleaning: Assist in unclogging drains using appropriate tools and methods.
- Tool management: Carry and organize plumbing tools and materials at job sites.
- Basic maintenance tasks: Replace filters, clean drains, and perform minor repairs as directed.
- Safety compliance: Follow all safety protocols while working on job sites.
- Clean up: Remove debris and clean-up work areas after completing tasks.
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- A minimum of six (6) months of related experience required.
License & Certifications
- Driver’s Licenses (non-commercial) must be state specific.

This position requires the capability to understand and follow both oral and written directions. Must be able to communicate effectively with others, analyze and resolve problems, maintain effective working relationships, and interact successfully with internal and external customers.

Travel Requirements
- 10% travel required.
Physical Requirements
- Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks. Specifically, for long distances or moving from one work site to another often.
- Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Close Vision: Clear vision at 20 inches or less. Required to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, or visual inspections.
- Depth Perception: Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships (three-dimensional).
Work Environment
- Extreme Cold, Indoor: Exposure to temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour which are not weather related.
- Extreme Heat, Indoor: Exposure to temperatures typically above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour which are not weather related.
