About the Role
Responsible for the performance of general accounting duties within the Cooperative. These duties include, but are not limited to, journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, financial statement preparation, financial reporting and variance analysis, budget and forecast preparation, tax and regulatory filings, financial accounting system maintenance, audit liaison activities, and technical accounting research and implementation. Emphasis on ensuring the financial statements accurately present the transactions of the business in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the RUS Uniform System of Accounts and compliance with the laws and regulations that govern the business.
Qualification
Four-year degree in accounting or business administration or substantial equivalent experience. Two plus years of accounting experience, preferably in a utility setting. Solid understanding of accounting principles and applications. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the RUS Uniform System of Accounts. Advanced spreadsheet and database skills to automate, control, analyze, and visualize data. Demonstrated experience performing month end accounting close functions, including, journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, and other supporting analysis. Experience preparing complex financial analysis, internal reports, and regulatory filings. Experience with a substantial accounting software, SAP preferred. An equivalent combination of related education, training, professional certification, and/or experience may be substituted for requirements listed above.
Responsibilities
- Prepare various recurring and one-time journal entries in the financial accounting system.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts to subsidiary ledgers and original documents to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting
- Prepare and maintain internal reports and analysis in support of recurring journal entries and account reconciliations, and for presentation to others, including management and external auditors.
- Prepare customer billings for projects performed by the Cooperative and monitor accounts receivable to ensure timely collections; prepare accounts receivable aging report.
- Prepare ad hoc financial, analytical, and narrative reports as necessary.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and budget variance analysis.
- Assist with the maintenance (e.g. master data, rules, etc.) of the financial accounting system.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budget.
- Prepare and file reports with regulatory agencies and third parties.
- Other duties as assigned.
Salary : $6,318 - $10,720
