Summary
The Water Resource Management Intern will work under the direction of Water Resource Management staff to complete a project that aids department goals while performing meaningful work that drives professional development and provides opportunities to understand the critical role of water management in the power industry. The Water Resource Management department is primarily responsible for securing and managing sufficient and sustainable water supplies to support power generation at APS power plants. This includes a wide range of responsibilities, i.e., acquisition of water supplies, securing water permits from the Arizona Department of Water Resources, analysis of watershed conditions, groundwater monitoring and modeling, documentation of generating fleet water consumption, regulatory reporting, developing metrics that promote water conservation, drilling/closing groundwater wells, biological assessments, and ensuring company compliance with Arizona water rules and laws.
Intern duties may include but are not limited to:
- Data collection, entry, and analysis
- Meet with regulatory agencies and/or attend statewide water planning meetings
- Project management assistance including preparing/evaluating plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates
- Research assistance including technology reviews, data management and storage, hydrogeologic studies, and industry best management practices
- Collaborate with other APS departments and/or hydrologic consulting/engineering firms
- Field visits to powerplant groundwater supply wells and systems
Minimum Requirements
- Actively enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate or graduate degree program.
- Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.
Major Accountabilities
1) Performs simple to intermediate analysis and designs. May assist in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations and studies.
2) Assists in research, business documentation, studies or technical reviews. Conducts analyses, investigations, verifications and summarizes results or findings in written reports or oral presentations.
3) Utilizes internal resources to learn business/engineering operations/functions and apply learning in completion of work assignments.
4) Coordinates efforts with other disciplines, and/or departments in achieving project goals and task assignments.
5) Performs other related duties as required.
