Job Description:
The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law seeks an engaging and collaborative individual for the position of Specialist, using the working title of “ASU Law School Fellow.” While working with a variety of staff and faculty on clinic matters, the Fellow will assist with the transition from departing Civil Litigation Clinic Director to the Interim Civil Litigation Clinic Director with projects, programs, and law school initiatives as well as temporarily take on essential duties of clinic operations. Physical presence at the workplace or the college is an essential function or requirement of the job.
This position is expected to last at least one year (12 months) from start of assignment.
Essential Duties:
- Coordinates resources to meet the needs of the area assigned
- Acts as liaison with the community, students, faculty, and staff in facilitating college and clinic business
- Consults with staff, faculty, students and others to provide technical advice, problem solving assistance, answers to questions and program goals and policy interpretation
- Prepares and conducts related program evaluation activities
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the College of Law and/or ASU
Essential Duties to assist the Interim Director of the Civil Litigation Clinic:
- Conduct legal research using various online resources and databases to support attorneys in case preparation, including case law, statutes, and regulations
- Draft, review, and organize legal documents such as pleadings, motions, subpoenas, deposition notices, and discovery requests/responses
- Assist in the management of the discovery process, including gathering, reviewing, and organizing documents; preparing privilege logs; and coordinating document productions
- Prepare deposition summaries, and assist attorneys in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders
- Coordinate paperwork process for enrolled/selected students to ensure process steps are followed correctly and information is accurate
- Assist Civil Litigation Clinic with day-to-day administration
Desired Qualifications:
- Evidence of a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Experience in higher education administration.
- Experience maintaining effective working relationships.
- Experience working in a position requiring organizational skills and project management.
- Evidence of effective communication, both verbal and written.
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Occasional Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Evidence of effective communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
