What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Modeler position at Ark?
Process Modeler
About Ark
Ark is building the world’s highest-fidelity bioprocess simulation software so cutting edge science reaches those who need it most. Through democratizing complex multi-physics models in an easy to use software interface, we can change the way scientists work, ensuring that more scientific breakthroughs break through from the lab to the world – faster. With Ark’s software, scientists can replace slow (multi-week), expensive ($10K-100Ks) experiments with simulations that run in seconds! Ark is ushering in a new era of bioprocess, where scientists can run 10,000x as many experiments, making sure the best science reaches those who need it most.
About the role
As a Process modeler, you will develop models that make a difference. You will be responsible for new model development from ideation through validation and have the opportunity to work on hard, high-impact problems at the intersection of bioprocess and modeling. You will work with a team of innovative PhD modelers and practitioners as well as software engineers who will translate your models into easy-to-use software.
This is an opportunity to join an ambitious team building a product that matters. At Ark, you’ll have the chance to build foundational technology that will make the world better. We move fast, we have a high bar for excellence, and we ship the best.
Key Responsibilities
- Own new model development from ideation through validation, including surveying relevant literature, deciding on modeling directions, validating models, and writing clean, performant scientific software code.
- Develop and deploy robust models in areas related to numerical simulation of dynamical systems, uncertainty quantification in relation to dynamics, ML and mechanistic models for cell metabolism, parameter estimation, process optimization/control, state estimation, glycosylation, CQAs, and chromatography.
- Work with an interdisciplinary team of modelers, scientists, software engineers, and designers to ensure that models move from research to production seamlessly.
About you
- Ph.D. in chemical engineering, optimization, controls, operations research, or other relevant fields
- Experience with dynamical systems modeling and process optimization/control
- Experience with parameter fitting, model selection, hybrid modeling.
- Experience in statistical modeling and parameter estimation (e.g., MCMC)
- Expertise solving complex differential equations or DAE systems
- Experience with numerical optimization and familiarity with nonlinear programming solvers
- Experience in machine learning a plus
- Team player who is willing to work on multiple parts of the codebase and give constructive feedback for product, UI/UX, and customer workflows
Position
- Cambridge, MA (blocks from Harvard Square)
- Benefits include health, dental, and vision coverage, holiday and vacation time, 401k matching, and stock options
