Job SummaryThe Peer Specialist will function as a role model to members; demonstrating expertise in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serves as a consumer advocate, provides consumer information and peer support for members. The peer specialist performs a range of tasks to engage, motivate and inspire members to participate in their recovery, regain independence within the community and promote optimal wellness. The Peer Specialist will also build bridges and connections with community support services. This position may require travel.

Requirements

EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent required.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

One of the three Peer Support Certifications (PR, APR, PRPS) through the Arkansas Peer Specialist Program at the time of application. Must maintain/uphold the certification during employment.

Valid unrestricted driver's license that facilitates travel across the state required.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum six (6) months' experience at or above the core certification level (Core, Advanced or Supervisor).

Experience working with computers and basic Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Knowledge of the Recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established standardized mental health processes.

Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mental illness and substance use disorders.

Knowledge of community resources necessary for independent living and ability to teach those skills to other individuals with substance use disorder.

Knowledge of how to access and utilize recovery support and educational groups.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & ABILITIES

Microsoft Office

Ability to teach and engage in basic problem-solving strategies to support individual members in self-directed recovery.

ResponsibilitiesActs as an educational resource on substance use disorder and recovery for the enterprise., Assists members in working with their case manager or treatment team in determining the steps he/she needs to take to achieve personal goals and self-directed recovery., Assists members living outside the immediate local community with identifying and utilizing Peer Recovery resources available within their local community., Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams as a member advocate in discharge planning education, resolution of barriers, and service transitions., Empowers members through developing life skills and combating stigma through advocacy and recovery., Functions as a role model and advocate to members who have a substance use disorder. Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies., Identifies opportunities for engagement of members in forming a supportive, peer recovery network. Assists members in locating and joining local recovery support groups., Initiates and maintains contact with assigned members to determine members' engagement and response to services., Performs other duties as assigned., Provides treatment and recovery resources, in addition to peer support services for members. Serves as a recovery agent by providing and advocating for recovery-based services to assist the members in daily living., Utilizes tools to assist members in creating their wellness and recovery plans.

This position is identified as level three (3). This position must ensure the security and confidentiality of records and information to prevent substantial harm, embarrassment, inconvenience, or unfairness to any individual on whom information is maintained. The integrity of information must be maintained as outlined in the company Administrative Manual.

Segregation of Duties

Segregation of duties will be used to ensure that errors or irregularities are prevented or detected on a timely basis by employees in the normal course of business. This position must adhere to the segregation of duties guidelines in the Administrative Manual.
