The Arlington County Police Department's (ACPD) Operations Division seeks an Administrative Technician to support the Automated Safety Enforcement Unit (ASEU), part of the Special Operations Section (SOS). The selected candidate will assist with the daily operations of the ASEU’s existing and future automated enforcement programs, including the Photo Red Light and Photo Speed programs.
This unit utilizes advanced technologies to educate motorists, enforce traffic laws, and promote road safety through its rapidly expanding initiatives. Responsibilities include event processing, adjudication, customer service, and various administrative duties for the unit.
Event processing requires the use of automated enforcement software to retrieve, screen, and review images, videos, and computer records. The position demands strong organizational skills, technological proficiency, and a high level of discretion. Additionally, a solid understanding of County Administrative Rules and Regulations, Virginia laws, and Police Department policies and procedures is essential.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
Polygraph/Background Check: Due to the sensitive nature of this position, the Police Department will conduct pre-employment criminal records checks and polygraph examinations. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, character/background investigation, and credit history. You must sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexible work schedule and telework opportunities available upon supervisor approval.

Responsibilities
Specific duties include:
- Using automated enforcement software to retrieve, screen, and review images, videos, and computer records in order to determine probable cause and recommend cases for further action;
- Assisting the public with inquiries regarding their tickets, providing necessary customer service;
- Supporting the program manager with administrative duties and record-keeping tasks;
- Obtaining and maintaining certification as a Special Conservator of the Peace (Special Police Officer);
- Obtaining and maintaining a Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) license for accessing records;
- Preparing and presenting evidence and courtroom testimonies for contested cases;
- Performing various administrative assignments; and
- Acting as a liaison between the Police Department and the vendor as needed.
Minimum
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent; and
- Some experience providing administrative support.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Providing significant administrative support for multiple executive-level staff members;
- Managing office systems and programs, delivering direct customer service such as routing and tracking requests, and maintaining accurate program data;
- Using the Microsoft Office Suite to draft, edit, and proofread reports, correspondence, and other documents that may be confidential or sensitive; and/or
- Utilizing other Microsoft applications including SharePoint, Teams, OneNote, MS Power Platform, and other resource management systems.
