The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is seeking a high-energy, dynamic Youth and Teen Community Recreation Programmer II. This position will plan, implement, coordinate and manage year- round recreational programming for youth ages 5-18 including camps, afterschool programming, drop-in events, special events, and late-night teen programming.

Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. A pre-hire federal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry check will also be completed before hire.
Driver’s License: The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or ability to use alternative modes of transportation. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record.
Additional Information
Work Hours: Full-time 40 hours per week, including evening and weekend work. Actual work schedule is determined by the needs of the work location. The schedule may vary based on programming needs and can include night and weekend shifts. Some telework may be available contingent upon workload and supervisor approval.

Responsibilities
Specific duties include:
- Collaborating with unit leadership to establish and maintain a comprehensive Program, Communication and Outreach Plan, including making recommendations for program improvements;
- Collecting, analyzing and utilizing data to evaluate and improve comprehensive programming;
- Identifying and securing location and resources to ensure successful implementation of out of school time youth & teen recreation programming at various Arlington County sites;
- Planning, implementing, and managing out of school time, special event, and summer camp programming for youth ages 5-18;
- Providing onsite direct leadership of programs and activities;
- Documenting, reviewing, and tracking program expenditures while adhering to purchasing procedures and funds handling;
- Maintaining equipment and supplies inventories, ordering supplies and reporting equipment repairs;
- Creating and updating marketing materials and web content and in compliance with DPR marketing standards;
- Building relationships with stakeholders; and
- Supervising permanent and temporary staff, including providing on-site orientation, scheduling, timekeeping, and coaching.
- Established planning, administrative, communication, and project management skills;
- The ability to manage time efficiently, problem-solve, meet deadlines, work successfully in a team environment, work autonomously, and ask questions and seek assistance as needed;
- A demonstrated track record of resourcefulness and ability to take ownership of a project and hold oneself accountable for results as well as possessing and openness to self-reflection and constructive feedback;
- Reliable transportation; and
- The ability to complete tasks, take initiative, and work successfully in a team environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies or a related field;
- Considerable experience managing youth recreation programs and activities; and
- First Aid/CPR/AED certifications or the ability to obtain them within 60 days of hire.
