JOB DESCRIPTION: Professional Day and Orientation: July 2, 2025 Program Dates: July 7, 2025 - August 1, 2025 Location: Washington-Liberty High School Model: IN-PERSON English Language Arts Coordinator for Grades 8-12 Coordinator works in collaboration with the high school Summer School site-based administrator and subject area supervisor to implement the English Language Arts program during Summer School. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities Include : Coordinate the ELA summer program for high school Work cooperatively with the ELA Supervisor/Specialist, Summer School site based administrator, and staff Collaborate with other departments, especially the English Learners and Special Education Offices to support appropriate instruction Communicate and collaborate with teachers using a variety of techniques including email, google, Canvas, and in-person Provide ongoing program support for curriculum and instruction, including organizing assessments of students’ progress Support the high school ELA summer school program by: Assisting with administration of assessments, collecting and compiling data, analyzing data, and planning interventions Planning with teachers before and/or after school Coaching teachers in literacy-related best practices and provide staff development as needed Co-teaching in classrooms as needed Assign, distribute, and maintain an inventory of instructional materials at the summer site Coordinate the return of materials and closing of ELA Summer School EXPERIENCE: Experience: Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds Experience with Virginia English high school SOLs Previous experience teaching summer school QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred Qualifications : At least five years of successful teaching experience in high school Experience as a department chair or content lead teacher Knowledge of secondary English courses offered in summer school Excellent organizational skills Ability to support administration and data analysis of common assessments Ability to work and communicate well with colleagues Ability to work the week before summer classes begin CONTACT INFORMATION: Candidates should contact Sarah Cruz at sarah.cruz@apsva.us or 703-228-7206 if interested in this position or have any questions.
