Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Security Architect to design and implement security solutions for a federal IT environment at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The candidate will ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity standards, including FISMA, NIST, and FedRAMP, while providing strategic guidance on security practices like Zero Trust and DevSecOps. This role involves developing security roadmaps, conducting risk assessments, and collaborating with IT teams to safeguard sensitive government data. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to align security architecture with federal mandates and emerging technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement security solutions for federal IT environments, ensuring compliance with FISMA, NIST, and FedRAMP standards.
- Develop and maintain security architecture roadmaps, aligning with federal mandates and emerging technologies like Zero Trust and DevSecOps.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide risk mitigation strategies to protect sensitive government data.
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate security controls into network topologies and IT systems architectures.
- Create detailed documentation, including diagrams, white papers, and frameworks, to support IT architecture designs and decisions.
- Utilize Enterprise Architecture tools to perform analyses, research, and problem-solving related to system architecture.
- Perform trade-off analysis to balance security requirements with project scope, schedule, and performance constraints.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert, providing strategic guidance on security best practices and technology adoption for federal clients, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Required Education and Experience:
- Expertise in IT architecture and creating diagrams, white papers, frameworks, and documentation with all components what comprise IT systems including network topology, etc.
- Expertise with the design and development of IT architectures.
- Expertise performing all aspects of risk management.
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of Enterprise Architecture tools.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform the analysis and research of problems and processes relating to the architecture subject matter.
- Expertise in conducting trade-off analysis of requirements against the scope schedule, and performance issues.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a business or technical discipline required. 7 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.
- 4 years relevant experience
Minimum Qualifications
- VA or other Federal Government experience strongly preferred
- Experience with either Business Intelligence/metrics, DevSecOps, or Azure
- Proven experience as a security analyst or similar role
- Familiarity with project management or Agile frameworks is a bonus
- Ability to critically review documents and architectures to analyze and provide enhancements
- Working knowledge of various cloud infrastructures (e.g. AWS, Azure)
- Experience with Architectural Frameworks (e.g. DoDAF) a strong plus
- Experience working in the Federal space
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to critically
- Willingness to learn and strong ability to research
- Strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- CISSP or other similar security certifications are strongly preferred but not required.
