POSITION SUMMARY 

Under the direction of the CFO and the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly high-volume accounting, auditing, budgeting, taxes and related Club accounting activities; preparation of forecasts, analyses and various monthly and ad-hoc reports for administrative, managerial, and Club committees as well as monthly allocations of prepaid expense, accrued expenses, and deferred revenue; inventory counts and reconciliations; research transactions and report on findings; monthly off-premise wine sales, tax reconciliation and return preparation; and assist in preparation of annual audit. 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Depositing Club funds in approved depositories.
• Overseeing management of petty-cash funds.
• Taking and pricing of physical inventories.
• Maintaining fixed assets database and accounts (acquisitions, disposals, and transfer between departments).
• Maintain all depreciation records.
• Maintain and reconcile the special activities accounts with the general ledger (Ladies 9- and 18-Hole Groups, Senior Golf, Tennis functions, etc.).
• Assist in member inquiries and member problem solving.
• Maintain adequate postage inventory and provide month-end usage to Controller.
• Maintain file on property damage and accident/incident reports.
• Provide the Club’s insurance agents with bids pertaining to property damage or accidents that occur at the Club.
• Contributes to the preparation of operating budgets and financial forecasts in coordination with the CFO.  Analyzes financial information, monitors budgeted versus actual expenditures and advises management about variances and their potential causes.
• Assist with the Fiscal Year closing of accounts.
• Prepares for verification by CFO and/or Controller the reports made to banks, insurance companies, agencies and trade and professional organizations for which dissemination is consistent with Club policies.
• Compiles data used in the preparation of applicable federal, state, and local tax returns.
• Interacts with the Club’s external auditing (CPA) firm as necessary.
• Assist with reporting of financial operations for presentation at the Annual Board of Governor’s Orientation Meeting.
• Maintains accurate spreadsheets with data used to complete various Club surveys.
• Works with the CFO to plan and manage capital budgets.
• Maintains necessary procedures for confidentiality relating to Club and employee issues.
• Serve as a backup to Payroll Manager.
• Compile, Maintain, and verify the accuracy of the special function worksheet with relevant supporting IRS documents.

Requirements

• BA/BS in accounting
• Experience working within a similarly sized organization. Prior work in a country club is preferred.
• Experience in operational and financial audits.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with all levels within the organization.

• Proficiency in all Microsoft Suite Applications including MIP (preference) or other accounting software. Jonas, Club Essentials or other club software experience, a plus

• Strong written/verbal communication and organizational skills with ability to multi-task.
• Detail and deadline oriented.
• Strong documentation and problem-solving skills.
• Strong analytical, technology, communication and organizational skills. five years of experience in accounting or finance, and public accounting.
• Self-starter.
