MAIN FUNCTION:
Performs a variety of cleaning techniques including dusting, mopping, scrubbing and the use of heavy equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily Duties:
- First thing every morning changes all cleaning solution bottles.
** 2. Cleans all flat surfaces in operating room surgical suites.
** 3. Is responsible for proper and thorough cleaning of the OR table.
** 4. Mopping of floor in OR rooms. Change mop head and germicide solution in mop bucket after each use.
** 5. Clean sponge buckets and garbage bag holders. Replace liners in their proper holders.
** 6. Make up the OR table with clean linen; 1) full sheet over table 2) draw sheet over side.
- Replaces laundry bags with appropriate water soluble inner liners.
** 8. Clean any other equipment in the surgical suite that has been contaminated with gross debris.
** 9. Clean overhead surgical lights if they have been contaminated with gross debris.
** 10. Clean contaminated rooms according to prescribed established policy.
- Replaces of dust covers on equipment stored in outer corridor after it has been used. Proper placement of that equipment to insure both safety and maintenance of an open corridor for OR traffic.
- Makes up beds for those surgical patients who will be transported postoperatively to the Recovery Room or a specified hospital unit.
** 13. Cleans IV equipment, controllers, poles and pumps.
Other Daily Duties:
** 1. Removes all boxes, packaging and garbage from the OR down to the ground floor for proper disposal.
- Clean stretchers in the hallway between the Cystoroom and the Recovery Room and placement of them to assure a clear path for traffic flow in these areas.
- When all cases have been completed, clean the OR suites for PM shift if time allows.
Weekly Duties:
- Cleaning and inspection of scrub solution dispensers.
- Cleaning of pass-through cupboards.
- Cleaning of OR refrigeration units; 1) Blood 2) Drugs 3) Food. (Outside only)
- Cleaning of all OR table attachments and accessories, proper return of these items to the attachment cupboard and the cleaning of that cupboard. The special attachments for the OR tables in room 1 and 7 should be cleaned but left on the tables in those rooms.
- Cleaning of OR hand tables.
- Cleaning of cast cart.
- Cleaning of laminectomy frames and pinion apparatus and proper storage of these items in their respective locations.
- Cleaning of blood warmers.
- Cleaning of suture carts in OR rooms.
- Cleaning of laparoscopy carts.
- Cleaning of tourniquets. Also be sure electric units are plugged in to charge them.
- Cleaning of all specialty carts and cupboards in all OR areas.
- Clean outside monitors in rooms 1 and 7.
- Cleaning and maintenance of the metal equipment table and the back hall and corridors.
- Cleaning of large metal cabinet in the sterile supply room where water, saline and blankets are stored.
Bi-Weekly Cleaning Duties:
- VBG cart.
- Top of IV cabinet.
- Equipment tables located in the back hallway.
- Damp dust sterile supply room cupboards and shelves. Be sure you wipe shelves dry before placing sterile supplies back on them. Be sure to put the sterile supplies back on the shelf that you found them.
- X-Ray aprons.
- Microscopes.
Miscellaneous Duties:
- Clean and dust back supply room, all boxes should be kept up off the floor on pallets.
- All other housekeeping duties as deemed by the OR Head Nurse or Housekeeping Supervisor.
Characteristics:
- Think and move quickly and act independently.
- Able to learn and retain procedures - little explanation needed.
- Able to take orders under stressful situations.
Other:
- Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.
- Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer’s needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent experience required. Must be able to read and understand both verbal and written instructions.
EXPERIENCE:
Previous housekeeping experience necessary.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
No CPR required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Required to be on feet much of time. Reaching, bending, stooping and lifting.
EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
Category I. Tasks that may involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
