AMHC is excited to announce the opening of a new Family Peer Support Specialist position in the Machias area. This is a unique opportunity to provide compassionate, peer-based support to families and caregivers navigating behavioral health care challenges.
The Family Peer Support Specialist will be a crucial Children’s Behavioral Health Home team member. In this role, you will use your lived experience to offer guidance and support to families of individuals facing mental health challenges. Your job is to help them navigate complex healthcare systems, access vital resources, and build the skills and confidence they need to advocate for their loved ones' well-being.
You will be key in fostering a sense of hope and resilience by empowering families, offering emotional support, and ensuring they feel heard and involved in the recovery process. This role emphasizes compassion, education, and active collaboration with families and service providers.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Compassionate, Peer-Based Support: Use your lived experience to offer respectful and supportive guidance to families and caregivers.
- Advocate for Families: Assist families in advocating for their rights and ensuring their needs are met in the mental health care system.
- Collaborate with Resources: Help families identify and access the resources they need to support their loved ones’ mental health journey.
- Maintain Quality Documentation: Ensure that all documentation and reporting reflect the integrity and excellence of the program.
Schedule:
- 40 hours per week – Full-time position

Requirements:- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum 3 years of lived experience in parenting or caregiving (biological parent, foster parent, grandparent, or caregiver role).
- Must have at least 1 child/youth who lived with you for a minimum of 3 years and received or is currently receiving support related to mental health challenges.
- Willingness to self-identify based on your lived experience.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
