Overall Responsibility : With guidance from senior engineers, the Mechanical Designer will be responsible for the completion and maintenance of high quality mechanical and plumbing designs, including but not limited to Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) plumbing piping design, fuel piping systems, fire protection systems and sprinkler piping layout, using appropriate software programs and drawing standards.
Essential Functions :
- Determines design criteria, drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components.
- Refines rough sketches and notes to include material quantities and equipment specifications obtained from standard calculations and vendor information.
- Develops quantities and determines labor and material costs for cost estimates generally supports preparation of contract documents.
- Accurately performs appropriate calculations for assignments, including but not limited to : hydraulic calculations for hydronic systems; duct pressure loss calculations; plumbing system calculations for domestic cold water, domestic hot water, sanitary sewer, storm water, and pumping systems.
- Prepares plan drawings, riser diagrams, details, and schedules using appropriate software.
- Develops solutions to design problems.
- Selects basic HVAC equipment with guidance from senior engineers in the company.
- Performs site surveys and contributes to engineering studies.
- Attends and contributes to client and departmental meetings.
- Ensures assigned projects are completed within budget and on time.
