Commercial Lines Practice Leader

About this position:
Responsible for management and leadership of the Commercial Lines Practice including compliance with all applicable laws and insurance guidelines. Ensures the growth and profitability of the division by maintaining current customer base while expanding customer base through new business initiatives and development/ coaching/management of Risk Advisors/Producers. Member of Upstate Senior Management Team. Works with Senior Management to establish goals, initiate policy changes as appropriate, and develop and implement strategies to achieve Commercial Lines Practice goals.
Essential Job Functions:
> Lead day-to-day operations, projects, and special assignments of Commercial Lines Practice to meet annual revenue and profitability goals.
> Develop and execute both strategic and tactical plans to ensure long term success of Commercial Lines Practice.
> Manage, coach, and counsel staff to meet goals and deadlines; encourage continuous improvement for career development and succession planning.
> Develop organic growth strategy to include new business and retention of existing relationships.
> Function in role of Risk Advisor/Producer or Account Executive for certain large commercial accounts as assigned. Oversee middle market placements.
> Remain current with insurance products and guidelines; share knowledge and experience with Commercial Lines Practice staff.
> Understand and stay up-to-date with Commercial Lines carrier relationships including maximizing contractual incentives.
> Work with President to develop KPIs for Commercial Lines Practice and assist with budget and other financial reports.

Education/Certifications:
> Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
> 10 years of experience in insurance sales and management required
> 5 years of supervisory experience preferred
> Valid New York State Insurance licenses as required by NYS Department of Finance
Skills/Knowledge:
>
> Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; comfortable communicating with customers, co-workers, management, vendors, and community influencers
> Ability to independently handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines; attention to detail a must
> Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
> Proven ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
> Strong analytical and business judgment skills
> Demonstrated quality interpersonal and teaming skills; ability to interact within all levels of the organization and within the community
Physical Demands
> Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and some brief periods of walking/standing
>Repetitive use of telephone, computer, computer mouse, and keyboard
>Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. at times

The pay range for this position is $120,000-$150,000 annually commensurate with experience and education.
Additional compensation may be earned through the Company’s annual bonus and incentive programs, subject to individual and company performance.
