The salary range for this position: $25.00 - 30.00 per hour.

Under
the direction of the assigned faculty member, the Sewing Lab Assistant guides
and provides operational support to the Product Design sewing lab students. The
incumbent will assist students with machine and tool checkout, keeping
inventory of supplies, equipment organization and performing machine
maintenance. This position will schedule, monitor students, and provide help
with their projects during lab hours.
This
is on-site part-time postion of hours of 15 hours per week for up to
15 weeks per term.
Sewing Lab Operations — 60%
- Effectively operate and manage all machines in the lab
- Provide machine maintenance and minor repairs – calibrate, oil and clean every term.
- Manage machine and tool checkout through Web Check Out
- Manage Sewing Lab supplies, equipment organization and maintenance.
- Assist with monitoring students and project help during lab hours; help field questions from students on materials and procedures while guiding them safely and effectively on the use of all lab equipment.
- Manage and coordinate contracts for external vendors, working with the Division Operations director.
- Liaison with facilities for any facility-related issues regarding the lab spaces and furnishings.
- Schedule lab hours and coordinate class hours with the department scheduler
Shop Safety — 30%
- Enforce that safety and dress codes are carried out in accordance with shop policies
- Attend required training sessions on assigned PPE provided by the College
- Work with the Department of Environment Health and safety to maintain a safe and secure work and learning environment for students, faculty and staff
Non-Essential — 10%
- Help with the unloading and stocking of sewing materials in the Sewing Lab
- Other related duties
Required Qualifications:
- At least 5 years or more working in an assistant or coordinating capacity
- Excellent customer service skills
- Experience in working on an assortment of shop machines, Advanced skill level in operation and maintenance of home sewing machines. General knowledge of industrial sewing machines: training for specific industrial machine maintenance and repair will be provided.
- Strong sewing skills
- Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking and prioritizing skills; must have the ability to follow through and complete projects, with experience in overseeing others and coordination of multiple job tasks
- Ability to work with diverse groups and constituencies, including reporters, students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff and corporate contacts.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite products and databases
- Demonstrated experience in cultivating the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging into work practices and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter’s diverse communities
- Ability to handle all information with tact and discretion and recognizes the confidential nature of ArtCenter business
