Job Summary:
The Echo Sonographer Technician will provide onsite cardiology medical echocardiogram (ECHO) support services to eligible beneficiaries of the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System. The role requires performing diagnostic echocardiographic procedures in accordance with the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and the National Certification standards set forth by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
Work Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (no federal holidays unless otherwise specified).
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform echocardiographic studies, including 2D, M-mode, Doppler, and color Doppler ultrasound.
- Conduct stress echocardiograms, treadmill testing, bubble studies, and Definity contrast studies as needed.
- Collaborate with cardiologists and healthcare teams to ensure accurate interpretation and reporting of results.
- Maintain and operate GE ultrasound equipment and ensure optimal imaging quality.
- Record, analyze, and interpret echocardiographic findings, documenting results in the VA’s Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
- Follow VA and American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) guidelines for image acquisition and protocol adherence.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during imaging procedures.
- Adhere to infection control protocols, including OSHA regulations on occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Participate in continuous education and maintain certification in echocardiography.
- Provide professional and courteous service to veterans, their families, and other healthcare team members.
- Report patient safety incidents and adverse events as per VA policies.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Certification: Must be registered with ARDMS (RDCS - Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) and/or CCI (RCS - Registered Cardiac Sonographer).
- Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience as an echo sonographer is required.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Expertise in performing echocardiographic imaging using GE ultrasound systems.
- Ability to interpret cardiac anatomy, function, and pathology.
- Education: Completion of an accredited echocardiography training program.
- Compliance:
- Maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) or Continuing Education Units (CEU) as required by certification boards.
- Completion of VA-mandated training, including HIPAA, patient safety, and infection control.
- Clearance of a background check and credentialing through VA’s VetPro system.
- Annual tuberculosis (TB) screening and up-to-date immunizations, including rubella.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association approved).
