Job Title: Asphalt Laborer
Job Summary:
An Asphalt Laborer assists with the preparation, installation, and maintenance of asphalt pavement surfaces. This position requires physical labor, teamwork, and attention to detail while ensuring all safety and quality standards are met. Asphalt laborers work in a variety of weather conditions and are responsible for supporting the paving crew in tasks such as mixing, laying, and compacting asphalt.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and setup of job sites, including clearing debris and ensuring equipment readiness.
- Load and unload materials such as asphalt, sand, and gravel.
- Operate hand tools and machinery as needed (e.g., shovels, rakes, compaction equipment).
- Spread and level asphalt to ensure a smooth and even surface.
- Assist in the operation of paving machines and compactors.
- Follow all safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment.
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor.
- Assist in the removal and replacement of damaged asphalt when necessary.
- Work with the crew to complete jobs on time and to quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in construction or roadwork preferred but not required.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
- Familiarity with construction site safety practices and equipment.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
- Valid driver’s license (may be required depending on job location).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy objects, often up to 50 pounds or more.
- Stamina to work long hours, sometimes in hot or rainy conditions.
- Standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Possible exposure to noise, dust, and chemicals.
- May require early morning starts and long shifts, especially during peak season.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
