Job Summary

As a member of the care team, the Medical Assistant supports quality patient- and family-centered care principles by performing a variety of high-level functions. This includes gathering information and supporting patient visits, adhering to policies and procedures, promoting teamwork, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, and continuously seeking process improvement opportunities.

Job Expectations

• Deliver care delegated by the physician/authorized practitioner or RN to assigned patient population.
• Follow the patient’s plan of care and prioritize tasks based on patient acuity, resources, preferences, and provider schedule.
• Perform technical procedures, including medication administration, CPR assistance, procedures, and lab draws as defined by the clinical setting.
• Adapt approaches based on age or cultural differences.
• Implement assigned parts of the patient teaching plan and document care in the medical record.
• Communicate effectively with the delegating physician/authorized practitioner/RN and ensure continuity of care.
• Respond appropriately to emergent situations and function as a care team assistant when needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and share information only with those who need to know.
• Adjust care approaches based on the developmental level and cultural needs of the patient population.
• Partner with patients/caregivers in decision-making and ensure a safe environment.
• Customize care plans and modify clinical interventions based on the population served.
• Provide patient education according to assessed learning needs.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in work processes and environment.
• Identify workflow improvement opportunities and participate in meetings to support initiatives.
• Communicate effectively within the healthcare team.
• Engage in changes to enhance the work environment and patient experience.
• Fulfill organizational requirements and complete relevant learning.
