Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated postdoctoral fellow/research associate to conduct innovative social science research within the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at Auburn University. Key responsibilities include conducting survey research on rural and farm quality of life, farm and business management decision-making, and working with existing data sets on agriculture, forestry, and rural industries in rural Alabama.
Responsibilities
- Conduct survey research on various issues including rural and farm quality of life and farm and business management decision-making
- Work with existing data sets on agriculture, forestry, and rural industries regarding challenges and opportunities for rural Alabama
- Collaborate directly with Dr. Russell (Auburn University) and Dr. Taylor (Auburn University) on USDA funded research
Requirements
To be eligible for this position, applicants must possess the following qualifications:
- Earned Ph.D. in sociology, rural sociology, demography, agricultural economics, or a related field at the time employment begins
- Relevant experience using quantitative methods
- Strong analytical and statistical skills
- Ability to work with large amounts of quantitative data
- Excellent command of quantitative software (e.g., STATA, R, Python)
- Experience working on survey design
- Previous involvement in the creation of Extension and outreach products
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Interest in agriculture and rural prosperity
