Job Summary:
The Microbiology Manager plans, organizes, coordinates and oversees the overall operations and regulatory requirements of the Microbiology department. To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Responsibilities:
- Directly manage laboratory staff regarding staffing needs, communication, employee training, professional growth, employee behavior, corrective action, scheduling and payroll submission
- Assist in meeting the financial obligations of the profit center, including assisting in managing cost control, expenses and vendor contracts
- Manage the overall laboratory production operation, including service and customer report delivery, turnaround time, sample receipt, and process improvement
- Ensure that data integrity, quality control, and customer standards are met including, auditing test procedures, following SOP’s, documentation and QA meeting
- Facility Maintenance including the condition of equipment in the laboratory. This also includes instrument calibrations and preventive maintenance, facility lease renewals, site repairs, site security and housekeeping
- Work independently under pressure and recognize and resolve issues efficiently and effectively
- Perform testing functions, as needed, to ensure turnaround times are met and accurate results are reported
- Assist QA and Safety in insuring that laboratory operations are compliant with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulations
- Assist in coordinating operations assistance with sales and marketing by development of new services, transitioning new accounts, promoting and marketing laboratory services and acquiring new accounts
- Support companywide initiative and goals by an adherence to corporate policies at the laboratory level and communicating, promoting and guiding company initiatives and policies at the local level to employees
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Knowledge in clinical microbiology testing, required quality management is essential. Able to write clear and understand technical procedures, effectively teach, coach and assess competency
- Experience working in a large clinical reference laboratory environment preferred.
- Must have prior experience with Quality Assurance, and laboratory regulations/accreditation requirements
- Strong analytical, interpersonal communication, and change management skills, as well as being detail oriented and flexible are also required
- Strong lab supervision/managerial skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and organizational skills
- Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University and six years related work experience as a Laboratory Supervisor
- Possession of a California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License issued by the State Department of Health
Compensation:
- $160,000-185,000
- Compensation may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to individual competencies, education/professional certifications, experience and performance in the role
