About us
Ascend Micro School is a faith-based homeschool hybrid in northern Colorado Springs. Our mission is to guide our students towards expanding their minds and empowering their hearts with the goal of creating positive change in the community and world.
We have been operating since 2019 and have elementary and secondary classes. Our classes have only 12-16 students, meet two days per week (Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00-3:00), and we are located in Black Forest.
Logistics:
-2 days/week (Tuesday and Thursday)
-Teacher hours are 8:30-3:30each day
-We mostly follow D20’s calendar.
-Staff team building days and parent meetings are the second and third week in August annually. School starts the last Tuesday of August and ends the Thursday before Memorial Day.
-Teachers are compensated for 2 hours of at-home planning each week and also have a planning period at school.
Our micro school environment is decidedly quite different from a traditional school. Our environment is nurturing, creative, flexible, and empowering. We are a collaboration between the family and school. We provide individual/small group instruction in addition to group lessons, and the families provide core language arts and math instruction as well as reinforcement of skills at home.
Basic Job Functions:
- Provide individualized instruction in social studies, science, literature, and writing for each child in your cohort with support from TAs and director
- Teach group science classes with a hands-on, experiential learning approach
- Work with families to design learning plans based on their needs and passions
- Facilitate enrichment classes and student-driven projects
- Guide students as needed
- Ensure the safety of students during outdoor play/break time
- Find student strengths and encourage them
- Support students when they struggle
- Model positive character traits and Biblical worldview
- Co-lead service-learning projects
- Mentor students
- Collaborate with other staff members regularly
- Keep track of student progress
- Discuss student progress with parents as needed

The lead learning guides have the primary responsibility for parent relationships, curriculum, and progress monitoring. The TA, lead teachers, admin assistant, and board of directors are considered a team in the daily facilitation of the learning environment, student work, and overall operations of the school.
