The Surgery Scheduler is responsible to provide the highest quality patient care in scheduling all surgical procedures, obtaining referrals and medical clearances, and computer task management. A strong communication skill set is required for communications between staff, management and patients served. Though the days may be long and busy, they find the results to be well worth the effort.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Obtains demographic information, including insurance and running for verification
- Schedules all ophthalmic surgical procedures per physician direction.
- Obtains referrals for procedure and required medical clearances.
- Explains consent forms and obtain patient signatures
- Collects co-pays, and upcoming payments as necessary.
- Processes incoming faxes, scan documents into patient charts, and send for medical review.
- Sends office notes/scheduling updates to referring physicians
- Communicates frequently with clinical/optical teams
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
- High School Graduate, or equivalent education
- Minimum of two (2) years' of surgery scheduling or related experience, ophthalmology experience preferred.
- Certified Patient Service Specialist (CPSS) Certification, preferred.
