Responsibilities

The data protection analyst is responsible for securing and monitoring all data accessed, transmitted and stored throughout the business and third parties. The data protection analyst understands the entire data lifecycle, from inception through disposal, ensuring access to data is managed and maintained following security, engineering and governance principles. The analyst works closely with business units and stakeholders to help with data access, ownership and enforcement of policies, rules and safeguards. The analyst works closely with IT team members, cybersecurity operations/responders and third parties, and must be technically proficient with data protection technologies, including data loss prevention (DLP), data classification, privacy, behavior analytics, and encryption.

 

Qualificiations:

 

  • Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity and privacy principles.
  • Knowledge of systems administration concepts.
  • Knowledge of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data security standards.
  • Knowledge of Payment Card Industry (PCI) data security standards.
  • Knowledge of Personal Health Information (PHI) data security standards.
  • Develop test plans to address specifications and requirements.
  • Assist in the administration of risk management and loss prevention programs to maintain maximum protection of assets at the most economical rates.
  • Proven ability to write various policies, procedures and support documentation.
  • Excellent analytical and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to handle tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Stay abreast of information security events, news, trends and evolving legislative/regulatory changes
  • Security Policies and Compliance: Assist in developing and enforcing security policies, standards, and procedures. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Support and maintain a wide range of data protection technologies, including but not limited to DLP, behavioral analytics, insider threat, data classification, data governance and encryption.
  • Stay abreast of new technology and all growing aspects of Data Security and Data Loss Prevention.
  • Proactively recognize potential data security and compliance issues through reviews and analyses.
  • Provide ongoing insight into data privacy risks including analysis of key metrics and reporting of risk data.
  • Prepare, organize and maintain necessary documentation for internal use.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate complex information, concepts, or ideas in a confident and well-organized manner through verbal, written, and/or visual means.
  • Develop, follow, and maintain ‘playbooks’ which provide a visual depiction of various operational response workflows.
  • 1 to 2 years of Data Classification and Data Management experience in a similar technical and business environment.

Requirements

Education:

 

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
