Job Title : Upper School Teacher- Mathematics
Location : Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County (ACADC), Lone Tree CO
FLSA Status : Exempt
Reports to : Dean of Upper School
Work Hours / Days : Monday through Friday, Typical School day 7 : 00 am-3 : 35 pm, professional development and work days
- Please note all teachers will need to be able to attend training in Hillsdale, MI, for up to 10 days in June. ACACS and Hillsdale cover travel to the conference, lodging, and food.
Be prepared to submit three references, a philosophy of education and a cover letter.
Position Summary :
The Mathematics Teacher at Ascent Classical Academies is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in middle- and high-school mathematics, ranging from pre-algebra to calculus. Rooted in the classical education model, this role requires teaching with a focus on cultivating virtue, intellectual curiosity, and academic excellence. Teachers are expected to prepare unit and lesson plans aligned with Hillsdale College's K-12 Program Guide, utilizing classical pedagogy methods to engage students in meaningful learning.
Essential responsibilities include assigning and grading student work in a timely manner, monitoring student progress, and providing differentiated instruction to support both struggling and advanced learners. Collaboration with the Student Services team is necessary to ensure compliance with special education plans such as IEPs and 504s. Regular communication with parents is required to foster a strong partnership in student learning.
Beyond the classroom, the Mathematics Teacher will participate as a faculty mentor in the Upper School House System and assist with daily school operations, including supervision of student activities. Teachers are expected to maintain professionalism in conduct and communication while modeling the school's core virtues. Participation in professional development, including training through Hillsdale College's K-12 Office, is also required.
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree and pass the required State Praxis exam, with preference given to those with a degree or extensive coursework in mathematics. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills are essential, along with a commitment to the mission and values of Ascent Classical Academy.
This position requires physical ability to traverse the classroom and school building, monitor both indoor and outdoor student activities, and lift up to 15 pounds. Reliable attendance and adherence to all school policies and procedures are expected.
