Job Title: Upper School Latin Teacher
Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver (ACAND)-Brighton, CO

Reports to: Dean of Upper School
Work Hours/Days: 190 days following the school year calendar, usually from 7:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Desired Start Date: August 2025, with required attendance at teacher training conference in Hillsdale, MI, in June of 2025
Salary Range: $45,000-$52,000 annually

Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver (ACAND) is hiring a full-time Latin Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. This position involves teaching 7th, 8th, and 9th grade Latin, primarily using Wheelock's Latin as well as supplementary readings from Lingua Latina and readings from classical Latin authors. It also includes teaching one section of 9th grade history, the Ancient World to 500 A.D and additional support duties.
Ascent Classical of Northern Denver is a growing school, offering grades K-9 for the 2025-26 school year with plans to expand to K-12 by adding one grade per year. We seek teachers with high standards of excellence, a professional demeanor, a warm rapport with students, clear communication with parents, and a can-do attitude to join our team. The ideal candidate will be organized and devoted to helping students grow in wisdom and virtue.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide
- Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
- Assign, collect, grade, and return graded work in a timely manner
- Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning
- Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
- Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
- Communicate regularly, usually weekly, with parents
- Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule
- Participate in professional development as offered by ACAND and Hillsdale College's K12 Office
- Maintain confidentiality in student records
- Promote a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
- Perform other related duties as directed
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Latin, Classical Studies, English, or a related field, or equivalent experience (Teaching license NOT required).

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
- Must be able to traverse the classroom and the school
