Title: Nursery Manager
Status: Exempt, Full time (40 hours per week). Permanent- dependent upon completion of 1-year probationary period.
Location: Hillsboro, Oregon or ACFM Nursery Sites.
Summary: This position will oversee all day-to-day activities within ACFM’s native plant nursery, ensuring the nursery is performing profitably, effectively, and effectively. This position will conduct 75% or more of work time in an outdoor setting conducting hands-on nursery tasks such as plant propagation, plant care, and pest management. No more than 25% of work time will be spent in an office setting conducting administrative tasks. This position will report to the Director of Development.
Compensation and Benefits: $58,000 to $65,000. Paid time off, sick leave, medical and dental insurance, monthly phone stipend or company issued cellphone, life insurance, employer matching 401k.
Supervisory
- Oversee hiring and training of nursery employees
- Organizes and oversees the schedules and daily workflow of nursery staff
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
- Handles discipline of direct report employees in accordance with company policy
Essential Duties
- Ensure nursery meets its yearly revenue goals through sales, client relationship building, marketing, etc.
- Ensure nursery plants meet stock health requirements and never exceed 20% mortality by proactively implementing nursery industry best practices such as irrigation and pest management techniques.
- Ensure the inventory is always documented and up to date.
- Work with Director of Development to forecast each month’s tasks, hours, and costs. Ensure nursery has proper stock of high-demand species.
- Develop and run systems to increase efficiency and profitability of the nursery.
- Actively partner with Project staff to both plan successful projects related to harvesting plants and to sell current nursery inventory.
- Coordinate with the scheduling operator to ensure all nursery work is accurately forecasted, on the priority list, and on the schedule when needed.
- Support Field Team members as they work towards their Nursery Certification.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Excellent managerial and supervisory skills
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to assign and delegate tasks
- Ability, motivation, and endurance for 8 to 10 hours of productive manual labor.
- Ability to work outdoors across uneven terrain during inclement weather
- Ability to lift 60 lbs.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Experience managing or supervising a team of employees.
- Experience managing inventory and sales.
- Strong knowledge of nursery operation best practices and procedures
- Must possess or obtain Oregon Certified Pesticide Applicator’s License within 90 days of hire
- Valid driver’s license & ability to safely operate motor vehicles
