JOB SUMMARY:
Our Nursing team member’s primary goal is to provide the most remarkable patient experience while providing professional nursing services and patient care in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. The ED Secretary/Patient Safety Attendant communicates well within the team dynamic with basic clerical skills such as computer and courteous telephony as well as provides basic CNA care to patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the director and supervision of the ED Team Leader. Performs all work with accordance to the mission, visions, and values of Ashe Memorial Hospital (AMH).
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: One-year medical background preferred.
License/Certifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Current CPR Certification.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in State of NC, preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The ED Secretary/Tech provides effective verbal and written communication within the ED healthcare team and individualized patient care under the supervision of the RN. In addition to general nursing care and clerical responsibilities of the Secretary/Tech include (but are not limited to):
- Answers incoming telephone calls and refers calls to appropriate ED team member.
- Assess patient’s needs by making rounds. Identifies patient care needs and appropriately notifies nurse.
- Acknowledges and greets everyone approaching desk.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
- Ensures safe operation of equipment.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies.
- Answers call lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patient needs and in a polite and professional manner.
- Transports patients, using wheelchairs or stretchers; Assists with ambulation.
- Documents, monitors and reports symptoms and changes in patient status.
- Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families and visitors.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient records and uses time productively.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other team members.
- Properly perform admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
- Participates in bed readiness by communicating patient movement and through-put to ED TL.
- Maintains competency in basic cardiac telemetry and reports alarms to ED care team.
- Checks dirty work room at end of scheduled shift, cleans, and prepares equipment for nursing unit and returns to proper storage area.
- Provides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care to patient.
- Ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful and emergency situations.
- Interacts professionally and treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
- Maintains a good working relationship both within the nursing department and throughout the organization.
- Ability to properly use Mobilab, glucose monitor, and appropriate collection of specimens as needed.
- Seeks guidance from RN in uncertain situations.
- Functions as an effective team member to ensure completion of all patient care assignments.
- Checks patient identification prior to providing care.
- Completes annual employment requirements such as annual employee health and AMH Health and Safety Inservice commonly referred to as ADI.
- Maintains regulatory requirements of CPR certification.
- Adheres to the attendance policy.
- Utilizes Kronos system correctly to accurately record working hours.
- Attends scheduled staff meetings and in-services.
Safety Attendants provide direct patient care under the supervision of the RN. In addition to close, continuous, constant patient observation, responsibilities of the Safety Attendant include (but are not limited to):
- Provide close, continuous, constant observation of assigned patients.
- Cleans equipment according to policy and returns it to appropriate area.
- Completes all required paperwork according to departmental guidelines.
- Identifies patient care needs and appropriately notifies nurse.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies.
- Transports patients, using wheelchairs; Assists with ambulation.
- Documents, monitors and reports symptoms and changes in patient status.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient records.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families and other team members.
- Interacts professionally and treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
- Maintains a good working relationship both within the nursing department and throughout the organization.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude toward patient care assignments.
- Seeks guidance from RN in uncertain situations.
- Functions as an effective team member.
- Checks patient identification prior to providing care.
- Completes annual employment requirements such as annual employee health and AMH Healthy and Safety Inservice commonly referred to as ADI.
- Maintains regulatory requirements and CPR certification.
- Adheres to the attendance policy.
- Utilizes Kronos system correctly to accurately record working hours.
- Attends scheduled staff meetings and in-services.

Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.).
