Job Description Summary
We are seeking skilled educators who are passionate about supporting students who struggled in traditional high school settings. Instructors will plan and facilitate lessons using the Adult Education Content Standards for adults students who either lack a high school credential, or have tested below a 12th grade level in reading, language arts, or math. Instructors will support students’ ability to succeed in the following contexts:
- Academic and study skills – high school equivalency exam prep. (GED® or HiSet), and/or entry into postsecondary education or training, including dual-enrollment
- Employment – career exploration, job applications, interviewing skills, soft skills, etc.
- Teaching in a leveled, or multileveled, classroom with managed enrollment
- Tutoring in a study lab with rolling enrollment
- Facilitating distance learning courses through an online learning platform
- Teaching in a setting off campus, often in the evening
- Advising students one-on-one or in small groups
- Facilitating new student testing and orientation groups
Duties
1. Create and deliver lessons to help students develop their academic and workplace readiness skills and strategies (teaching assignments may vary, and could be primarily focused on math, language arts, science, social studies, or workplace readiness. 2. Administer formal and informal assessments in class to help determine instructional needs
3. Utilize classroom technology to enhance student learning
4. Maintain communications with students, administrators, and other staff
5. Maintain student records related to the course
6. Support overall needs of students related to enrollment, persistence, and completion
7. Participate in departmental, college, and state professional development opportunities as they arise

Minimum Requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree;
2. Demonstrated experience teaching math, language arts, science, social studies, or workplace readiness skills;
3. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office software;
4. Must either hold a NCCCS-recognized credential at time of hire, or earn one within 2 years of date of hire.
5. Bilingual in Spanish and English

Preferred Qualifications
1. Master’s degree in education, or closely related field
2. Experience using technology to enhance and/or deliver instruction including SMART Boards, iPads, computers, interactive PowerPoint presentations, etc.
3. Minimum of one year’s teaching experience with diverse and/or at-risk populations
4. Minimum of one year’s teaching experience with adults
5. Experience teaching math (from integers to algebra) to struggling students
6. Experience with research-based reading instruction for struggling students
7. Experience with academic and/or career counseling/advising
8. Experience with Basic Skills / College and Career Readiness programs in the community college setting
