About the role

Under the direction from the Head of Client Services and Promotional Strategy, provide proactive US-based support and leadership for allocated client teams so the objectives of the client and division are met. A senior leadership role, which involves developing long-term, effective client business relationships at the director level. Leading and developing sustained organic growth within key clients while having a pivotal role in driving new business success. Provide leadership to a team of account staff and across the division to contribute to the ongoing expansion of the agency.

Here's what you'll be doing:

Strategic Planning

  • High-level strategic direction of portfolio of accounts within a single or multiple client roster
  • Input to divisional strategic direction
  • Responsible with relevant support from account and medical scientific services team for development of portfolio account strategy and plan
  • Leader and shaper of client decision-making on strategic communications programs in line with client strategy
  • Input into scientific direction/content development
  • Accountability for ensuring delivery to agreed agency standards on account portfolio and adherence to all external standards/guidelines inc. client SOPs/industry guidelines
  • Understanding and interpretation of client, industry and market environment on a client portfolio level and how it impacts the business and make recommendations to adjust direction of portfolio of accounts
  • Development of effective relationships horizontally and vertically across client team
  • Issue handling supporting the account/portfolio team or directly with the client

Financial Management

  • Deliver contribution annually from portfolio of accounts to meet or exceed targets
  • Agency business focus e.g. responsible for contribution of own team, but also with a broader focus on development of the agency business, including achievement of business-wide targets and profitability
  • Contribute to refinement of business planning/monitoring process
  • Custodian of business planning/monitoring process within team
  • Account/project forecasting counsel for each account in the team
  • Driving pricing for maximum long term business opportunities
  • Responsibility for pricing decisions/negotiations in collaboration with the finance team
  • Ensure financial awareness and understanding of commercial implications of editorial team
  • Diligent accurate completion of personal time sheets

Internal

  • Contribute to and support decisions of the agency management team
  • Business team leadership and motivation
  • Leadership of client facing teams
  • Senior management of staff; issue handling
  • Relationships across divisions and departments; issue handling
  • Resource management and allocation within team in conjunction with editorial managers
  • Awareness of impact of account growth on overall resource/workload

Business Development

  • Lead business development in team with existing clients
  • Lead pitches, as appropriate, working with the new business team to win new clients
  • Good/ excellent presentation/influencing skills
  • Excellent understanding of client perspectives and needs
  • Work to support network growth but looking for partnerships across Ashfield network organizations

About you:

  • Several years of Medical Communications experience within the pharmaceutical industry and agency environments with a demonstrable track-record of handling across the pharmaceutical product life cycle, from pre- through post-launch and portfolio brand management
  • Evidence of development and delivery of strategic/tactical communications
