Job Summary: Under general direction, protects life and property, investigates complaints, enforces state and municipal laws and serves warrants and civil processes in Ashland County.
Minimum Qualifications:
· United States Citizen
· Be (18) eighteen years of age
· High School Diploma or G.E.D.
· Valid Ohio Driver License
· Certified Ohio Peace Officer
· Pass a Physical Fitness Evaluation

· Pass a Truth Verification Examination
· Pass a Physical, Drug and Alcohol Examination
· Pass a Psychological Examination
Essential Functions:
· Regular and predictable attendance
· Arrive on time for shift, be dependable, and maintain good attendance records
· Work in a 24 hour, 7 days a week operation in a variety of weather conditions

Duties And Responsibilities:
· Respond to a wide variety of emergency and non-emergency calls for service
· Respond to civil unrest or riots
· Perform law enforcement patrol functions, on foot or in a vehicle
· Obtain and serve arrest warrants, summonses, subpoenas, search warrants, and other court documents
· Secure the scene of a crime, emergency, or disaster to prevent damage, loss, or injury
· Perform rescue and support functions at the scenes of accidents, emergencies, and disasters administering emergency first aid as necessary
· Search for suspects, witnesses, victims, missing persons and evidence
· Conduct administrative, civil and criminal investigations
· Interview victims, suspects, witnesses and informants
· Identify and collect evidence and maintain chain of evidence/custody, collect latent fingerprints, and photograph persons, evidence, accident and crime scenes
· Seize, impound, or confiscate vehicles, property, and contraband
· Perform traffic enforcement and related activities, e.g. conduct traffic stops, issue traffic citations and written warnings as appropriate, set-up and operate traffic controls, conduct OVI investigations including field sobriety tests, conduct traffic crash investigations
· Perform NCIC/LEADS inquires
· Direct traffic, using hand signals, flares, barricades, vehicles, etc.
· Perform public service functions including security checks and responding to alarm calls, providing assistance and information to the public, assisting other governmental agencies and emergency services personnel
· Notify next of kin of death and/or injury
· Observe, record, recall, and report incidents and information, communicating effectively verbally and in writing, detailing incidents and activities of those involved accurately and concisely, preparing grammatically correct reports, forms and correspondences in a timely manner
· Testify in court, depositions and hearings accurately and truthfully
· Inspect and maintain uniform, patrol vehicle and all other Sheriff’s Office equipment
· Operate a County motor vehicle, during all hours, in routine and emergency situations, under normal and adverse road and weather conditions in accordance with policy
· Transport authorized employees, citizens, inmates, and committed mental patients, using handcuffs and other restraints, when appropriate
· Pursue fleeing suspects, in a vehicle or on foot, according to policy
· Locate, identify, apprehend and arrest law violators using that force necessary to effect the arrest and overcoming resistance if necessary, conducting pat down and full searches
· Walk and/or run for long periods of time in extreme conditions and physically hazardous locations, sometimes sprinting; use body force to gain entrance or break through barriers; push and/or pull objects, vehicles or persons; lift, carry, and/or drag objects or persons; sit or stand for extended periods of time
· Attend training as required and meet training standards
· Maintain Ohio Peace Officer Training Council Peace Officer certification
· Successfully complete the ACSO Deputy Sheriff field training program
· Understand and comply with orders from a Superior Officer, Policies and Standard Operating Procedures
· Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Sheriff’s Office
· Make prudent and sound decisions and diffuse problem situations taking only appropriate and/or reasonable risks
· Withstand exposure to and deal appropriately with stress involved in dealing with hostile views, opinions, and behavior in antagonistic settings
· Seek/provide information using the Chain of Command
· Perform other duties at the direction of the Sheriff or his designee
