Job Summary:
The Director of Operations (DO) directs, administers, and coordinates Emergency Preparedness, recruitment, advocacy and operational outreach activities to identify and implement new service opportunities for the hospital. This includes establishing policies, procedures, goals, and objectives as directed by the CEO and the Governing Body. The DO supports and oversees the performance and activities of supervised departments, serves as a resource for staff, and engages in community outreach to promote the hospital’s services and capabilities. The DO will sit on the Executive Team Committee.
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in healthcare related field.
Recent healthcare management experience.
Must be able to have critical thinking skills, show initiative, be well-spoken and have experience with process development.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Guides and directs supervised areas in the development and promotion of new and existing hospital services. Ensures that said departmental activities and operations are carried out in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, accrediting organization standards, and laws governing healthcare operations. Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directive to staff and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
Responsibilities
- Guides and directs management in the development and promotion of new and existing services and performance improvement activities of the hospital.
- Directs the development supervised departments’ short-term and long-term plans and budgets, aligning with facility goals, growth objectives and regulatory requirements to optimize revenue and control costs.
- Establishes and maintains the hospital’s involvement with key organizations and networks to ensure regulatory compliance and foster enhanced collaboration.
- Collaborate with the CEO and executive leadership team to develop and implement strategic goals and objectives.
- Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures that enhance operational efficiencies, patient safety, and the overall patient experience.
- Establishes operating policies and procedures consistent with the Ashland Health Center’s policies, procedures and objectives and ensures their execution.
- Lead regular meetings with supervised department heads to review performance metrics, address operational challenges and ensure continuous improvement. Evaluates the departmental results of overall operations regularly and systematically and reports these results to the Chief Executive Officer.
- Reviews supervised departmental reports, oversees supervised department’s QA programs and ensures continuous performance improvement. Prepares periodic reports for administration and/or board as requested.
- Collaborates with CEO and leadership team to recruit new staff and specialists to support hospital growth.
- Identifies and pursues opportunities to expand hospital services and programs to better meet community needs.
- Monitors and evaluates employee productivity data to assess operational performance and identify organizational needs for improvement.
- Develop, update, and ensure the implementation of the hospital’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), including plans for natural disasters, public health emergencies, and mass casualty incidents.
- Conduct regular emergency preparedness meetings, drills and exercises, including tabletop simulations and full-scale drills, to assess readiness.
- Responsible for and assisting in interviewing, hiring, assigning, and directing work, counseling, appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining staff.
- Conducts outreach programs as requested to hospital staff and/or the community
- Monitor changes and updates to CMS Conditions of Participation (COP) to ensure the hospital operations maintains full compliance with federal standards.
- Actively participate in advocacy initiatives through partnerships with the Kansas Hospital Association (KHA), Southwest Kansas Health Care Collaborative (SWKSHCC) and Clark County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), ensuring the hospital's priorities and needs are represented.
- Is accessible to provide onsite, phone or electronic consultation. May be called to work unexpectedly. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
