The Early Childhood Associate Teacher
Grades : Pre Primary, Primary, or Pre kindergarten (ages 2-6)
Reports to : Early School Division Director
Role Duration : 10 months, full time at an hourly rate of compensation
School Day : 7 : 30am to 3 : 30pm with the occasional faculty meeting from 3 : 45pm to 4 : 45pm
Position Summary : Ashley Hall School seeks a committed and professional Early Childhood Associate Teacher, who, working in collaboration with the Lead Teacher, will be instrumental in creating and implementing a dynamic daily program for young children based on the school's philosophy and values, using constructivist theory and inspirations from Reggio Emilia. The Associate teacher will be responsible for supporting the Lead teacher in planning, curriculum and instruction in literacy, mathematics, science, technology, and social studies, participating in collaborations with colleagues within the Early School division and throughout the school as a whole, and co-preparing documentation for students and families.
Other key responsibilities include working with the Lead Teacher to
- build relationships with each child and their family
- provide a positive learning environment for children
- co-create opportunities for growth of the whole child
- use positive guidance techniques
- co-teach problem-solving and conflict resolution
- assess students' learning and to document it through digital media, and portfolios
- co-plan curriculum to be age, stage, and individually appropriate
- provide differentiated learning
- co-design and deliver a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy that engages and honors all learners and embraces diverse perspectives
- partner with parents about their child's progress
- maintain a clean and orderly classroom, common areas and playground
Additionally, the Associate teacher attends all staff meetings and participates in required professional development opportunities.
