Position and Qualifications Summary

Ashley Hall is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and inspiring Visual Arts teacher who serves as a catalyst for student growth. Deep knowledge of and passion for the subject, especially in the areas of painting, drawing, sculpture, and digital media instruction are essential. Embracing the school's mission, the ideal candidate possesses the skills and determination to make a significant difference in the lives of our students.

Major Responsibilities

The ideal candidate for this position must be able to

  • Teach visual arts using an inquiry-based and project-based approach that emphasizes the studio habits of mind : observation, engagement and persistence, reflection, stretching and exploration, expression, development of craft, envisioning ideas, and understanding arts communities.
  • Foster creativity and independent thinking in the classroom with particular emphasis on student-led project development and choice-based practices.
  • Develop engaging lesson plans designed to foster global perspectives in art.
  • Cultivate a caring classroom environment that supports the academic progress and socio-emotional development of each student.
  • Share responsibilities for curriculum development as well as other departmental and divisional priorities.
  • Collaborate with other faculty in grades 5-12 as needed to facilitate the transition to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum framework.

Key Requirements

  • BA in Visual Arts and or art education, MA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience working with middle and upper grades students, specifically those in grades 5-8 and 9-12.
  • Experience with diverse art mediums and techniques, including
  • painting, drawing, and sculpture; specifically 2D and 3D practices that include drawing, painting, mixed-media, ceramics, sculpture, fiber arts, photography, and digital media.
  • An understanding of best practices in the teaching of visual arts.
  • Familiarity with art-related software and digital tools; ability to integrate technology into lessons.
  • Curriculum development knowledge; familiarity with principles of backward design.
  • Inter-cultural awareness with well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Commitment to ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team on projects and events.
  • Be an exceptional self starter with a high degree of self management and the ability to take initiative while being in continuous communication and collaboration with department members and administration.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in teaching in the IB curriculum framework is preferred but not a requirement.
  • Experience with the Art and Design AP examination course is preferred but not a requirement.

The School serves girls kindergarten through grade 12 (and is co-ed in its Early School, ages 2 to 5 years). Ashley Hall provides a dynamic education grounded in a Reggio approach in its early School and an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in its Lower School. It is currently in the strategic phase of a Middle Years Programme candidacy with the intention of pursuing Diploma Programme candidacy thereafter.
