What are the responsibilities and job description for the Authorization specialist position at Ashtabula County Medical Center?
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High school graduate or equivalent. Good computer skills and 10 key calculator proficiency. Analytical skills. Confidentiality and good communication skills.
Must be adaptable to change in a rapidly growing organization.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers. Good judgement. Ability to exercise discretion and diplomacy in order to maintain good control in problem situations.
Required Length and Type of Experience
Minimum of one year experience in medical group practice billing, hospital billing or health care accounts payable processing required.
Knowledge of Insurance benefits which includes deductibles, Co-Insurance, out of pocket, exclusions, and Prior Authorization requirements required.
Basic understanding of the benefits investigation process which includes deductible, out of pocket and benefit exclusions, etc.
Advanced working knowledge of CPT Codes and ICD9 Codes preferred.
Knowledge of required documentation which can include, LCD’s, Clinical notes, Carrier specific documents preferred.
Required Physical and Environmental Demands
Dexterity, two hands; ability to sit for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity to use a PC for extended periods of time.
Must be able to bend, squat, lift and carry paper products up to 25 pounds.
