JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: SPECIAL EDUCATION AIDE
Qualifications:
1. Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills.
2. Excellent organizational skills and recordkeeping ability.
3. Ability to accept supervision.
4. Ability to work independently.
5. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
6. Flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities.
7. Efficient and punctual.
8. High School degree minimum required AND 1) completed testing to demonstrate knowledge of and ability to assist students in reading, writing and mathematics; 2) completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (at least 48 semester hours of coursework); OR 3) have obtained an associate's (or higher) degree.
9. Knowledge of computer applications including Windows and Microsoft Office.
Reports To: Building Administrator or Special Education Teacher
Job Goal: To provide support for Special Education Students in the most efficient, effective and courteous manner in collaborative, small group and individualized settings.
Performance
Responsibilities:
1. Assist special education students in regular classes and assist with one-on-one and small group special education instruction.
· Assist all students in classrooms.
· Always be engaged with students or teacher-directed tasks.
· Teach lessons as directed by the special education teacher.
· Modify work as directed by the special education teacher.
· Support students for homework, quizzes and tests by providing extended time, modifying work, reading tests, etc.
· Monitor behavior of all special education students. Report any significant changes in performance to case manager.
· Monitor and document information for behavior management plans.
· Assist with behavior invention plans.
· Complete Medicaid billing requirements and other reporting documents as assigned.
2. Under the direction of the special education teacher, make and receive phone calls to communicate student issues with teachers and/or other staff.
3. Data entry on computers.
4. Supervise special education rooms
· Assist students with work, checking in with each student frequently.
· Monitor computer usage.
· Report significant off task behaviors or discipline problems to case manager.
· Supervise students.
· Use time effectively.
5. Correct papers, prepare projects, label materials, as directed by the special education teacher.
6. Inventory, prepare and check orders.
7. Drive school van for various activities including daily transportation to and from school.
8. Assist students with bathroom needs after proper training has been provided.
9. Assist students with physical care or nursing procedure (such as tube feeding, tracheotomy care, etc.) after being properly trained.
10. Assist students when they need to use braces or other equipment to navigate around the school or in the community.
11. Attend training to keep up with current technology, crisis prevention techniques and other related training.
Terms: Nine month year. Salary and work year to be set by the board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Ashwaubenon Educational Support Staff Employee Handbook.
