The Sanitation Manager oversees the sanitation operations at the Company's two manufacturing facilities in Palmyra, PA and its warehouse facility in South Londonderry Township, PA. providing strong leadership to the Sanitation team and ensuring compliance with applicable food safety, personnel safety and chemicals management standards and regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
- Develop, implement and enforce approved clean up procedures (SSOPs)
- Develop, implement and enforce safety guidelines as needed, including Chemical safety and awareness and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
- Provide and document training, including chemical safety and awareness, Lockout/Tagout and all other required employee training
- Maintain adequate cleaning supply inventories of sanitation aids, chemical cleaners, and sanitizers
- Manage costs while keeping cleaning effectiveness at a maximum; develop and implement cost saving opportunities
- Continually monitor the effective and adequacy of all cleaning activities via pre-operational and operational inspections
- Complete paperwork as necessary and comply with FDA, USDA, HACCP, OSHA and other applicable regulatory or auditing agencies
- Oversee Pest Control Program
- Work closely with other departments including communication with USDA inspector, production department, maintenance, other QA department team members, and HR regarding any personnel issues
- Maintain visibility and communication with all sanitation employees
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
- Able to work under pressure with a strong sense of urgency
- Ability to coach, train, and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English; bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
- Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for cleaning chemicals used and follow all safety precautions while using these chemicals
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma required, additional education a plus
- Minimum of 3 years Sanitation Technician experience and 3-5 years supervisory experience
- Experience with third party regulatory agencies such as FDA, USDA, OSHA, and PA Department of Agriculture
- SQF audit experience and requirements preferred
Environmental Conditions:
- Varying temperatures - the temperature in the plant is maintained within a range of 45 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit
- Due to constant sanitation, the environment is damp, and the floors are typically wet
- Due to constant sanitation, approved food-grade chemicals are frequently present in the work environment
- Food allergens including dairy, eggs, wheat, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, shellfish, fish, and sesame are used as ingredients in our products and are frequently present in the work environment
- Noise levels are moderate
- Proper clothing, shoes, hair restraints and other attire must be worn as required; jewelry and nail polish are always prohibited in production areas
Physical Requirements:
- While performing this job, the individual is required to regularly sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift objects up to 50 pounds
- Climbing ladders and/or stooping, kneeling or crouching is required when inspecting equipment and facility structure
- Tolerance for exposure to chemicals and fitting for respiratory equipment to conduct fogging is required
