PURPOSE
The Assistant Director of Student Services will assist with the responsibility for the system wide coordination and implementation of home to school partnerships that will support academic achievement of students in the district.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Assist in the development, design and oversight of the Alternative Continuing Education (ACE) program.
- Assist in conducting K-12 district discipline hearings
- Assist the Director of Student Services to oversee K-12 Homebound services
- Support continuous improvement in managing student behaviors to maximize student learning
- Assist district and school administration in evaluating the effectiveness of school to home services
- Analyzes behaviors and restorative practice conversations from an educational lens with best practices implemented
- Assist the district’s Homeless Coordinator and adhere to all Board policies and state/federal laws including, but not limited to, the McKinney-Vento Act.
- Provide support to all district administrators regarding the Safe Schools Act. Conduct long-term suspension hearings and make recommendations regarding the consequences for students involved in the hearings
- Coordinate homeless and migrant student activities
- Communicate frequently with community agencies, such as Division of Family Services, Mental Health, Columbia-Boone County Health Department, Juvenile Office, Boone County Group Homes, and Family Support, in order to support parents and students with community resources.
- Serves as a district liaison and communicates as needed to support the Supervisor of Student Services with community agencies such as the Juvenile Justice Office
- Assist with monitoring activities and disseminate data regarding attendance, dropout, and graduation rates as correlates to discipline
- Works with teacher, administrators and coordinators in the identification of interventions for students
- Ensure understanding and compliance with state and federal regulations apprised of emerging issues
- Promote, facilitate and ensure effective communication and partnerships to elevate the understanding and support of student needs
- Provide assistance and information to families of students with special needs
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality
- Keep district administration abreast of emerging local, regional, and national issues, and trends
- Support proposals for grants related to managing student behaviors and participate in their implementation

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Education or Social Work; Missouri Teaching Certificate or equivalent in Social Work/ Counseling or Administrative Certification. Practical knowledge of effective instructional practices, administrative or supervisory experience, school to home relationships; Excellent communication skills, strong technology skills, and student relations experience; Ability to work effectively with families, community at large, and administration.
Preferred: Master’s degree in Education or Social Work/ Counseling; Missouri Principal Certification and/or Teaching Cert. Preferred candidate will have experience at the secondary and/or elementary level with experience in various database tools and interpretation of data, restorative practices, Board policies, and state/federal laws including, but not limited to, the McKinney-Vento Act and the Safe Schools Act.

Technology: Use district software to find student information; readily utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district; Adhere to all District policies and procedures regarding technology usage.
Other Skills: Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries; Demonstrate excellent oral, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; Demonstrate excellent listening skills; Perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Physical Demands: Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; Read handwritten or printed material.
Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position; Some irregular hours may be required to meet with parents after the end of their work days.
Conditions and Environment: The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a typical office environment and will visit school environments that are noisy and active.
