Job Mission
Are you a structured and strongly organized Patent Paralegal with a passion for quality, processes and cooperation with colleague Patent Paralegals and Patent Attorneys? If so, would you like to be part of an international Patent Paralegal team? Within ASML, the Corporate Intellectual Property department is responsible for growing and maintaining a portfolio of patent rights that protects and supports ASML’s business around the world. As a Patent Paralegal you will provide efficient and high quality support to the Patent Attorneys in execution of the patent related processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the patent process with a core set of administrative tasks and responsibilities (e.g., manage patent docket (e.g., registration, deadlines, agendas), handle e-mails, do filings, organize patent review meetings).
Cooperate with Patent Attorneys to manage the patent portfolio (e.g. conduct weekly routine meetings to plan upcoming filings, provide support).
Communicate with Patent Offices and national and international patent agents.
Compare, check and enter data in a intellectual property (patent) management system.
Execute IP transfers.
Participate in process and/or quality improvements.
Be knowledgeable in the field of patent procedures and share related knowledge inside and outside the Formalities Officers group.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and experience
Bachelor degree and/or combination of education and experience
Certified Patent Paralegal or having the drive to be certified.
Minimum of 3 years of patent paralegal experience, resulting from working as a paralegal in the area of Intellectual Property, a law firm or corporate setting.
Knowledge and hands-on experience with docket management systems and document storage databases.

Other information
The position is based in San Jose and is part of the San Jose Corporate Intellectual Property team consisting of Patent Paralegals and Patent Attorneys. The San Jose Patent Paralegals are also part of a global team with Patent Paralegals and Patent Attorneys in Veldhoven (NL), San Diego, San Jose and Wilton (US), who all report to the Manager CIP Support & Administration who reports to the SVP & Chief IP Counsel.
The position requires strong interpersonal skills for communicating and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders. It also requires also careful clerical attention and skills for managing legal documents and processes using a combination of commercial software (e.g. Microsoft Office) and customized internal databases.
The position requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation.
A hybrid remote working policy is applicable for this job (3 days onsite, 2 days remote).
Training on-site or attending a training program in the Netherlands is to be decided.
Occasional travel, both domestic and international, required (<1x/qtr)
A typical day at work might include:
Executing patent processes and workstreams,
Working closely together with Patent Attorneys and Patent Paralegals to align on patent matters,
Providing Patent Attorney support and executing formalities tasks,
Participating in quality and/or process improvements,
Creating reports for internal stakeholders.

The current base annual hourly range for this role is currently $38.40-$64.00. Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
