What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Childcare Teacher position at Aspen Childcare Solutions?
Purpose of Position: This is a substitute position. You will assist with the overall management of the classroom and provide a safe, nurturing and comfortable environment for children and families focusing on exceptional academics and interaction with children, enabling a positive learning experience. Reports to: The Lead Teacher in the classroom and Center Director of partner school; Director of Fulfillment
Responsibilities:
Program
- Responsible to follow all policies and procedures set forth by the company, the partner school, and its licensor.
- Responsible to follow all regulations set forth by the Department of Social Services, and that of our licensor, pursuant to the Mandated Reporter and report ANY suspected child abuse or neglect
- Support the company’s core values, mission, philosophy at all times and in everything you do
- Complete any required checklists for the classroom and partner school as required by your individual classroom and group (infants/toddlers/preschool) or evening closing duties
- Keep information about children, families and staff confidential
Children
- Assist children in transition during daily routine and facilitate the children’s participation in classroom activities
- Treat each child with respect and dignity in adjusting the curriculum to meet their individual needs, concerns, special talents and individual style and pace of learning
- Be thoughtful for each child’s relationship to his or her cultural and socio-economic background
- When the children in your care are sleeping, you are responsible to check with your lead teacher or instruction manager to find other duties you can assist with in the classroom (cleaning, organizing, etc)
- Complete proper toileting/changing procedures for all children in your care in order for the lead teacher to maintain his/her role as lead caregiver during group teaching times.
Classroom
- Assist with general housekeeping tasks assigned
- Assist in preparing the learning environment, setting up centers, preparing necessary materials and supplies
- Assist in implementation of the lesson plans under the direction of the classroom lead teacher
- Responsible for assisting in the overall appearance and décor of the classroom assigned and assist in doing the housekeeping responsibilities of the classroom.
- Maintain proper health and safety standards in the classroom (hand washing, allergies, cleaning, etc)
- Establish appropriate positive relationship with parents and children. Relay all pertinent information to the Lead teacher via open communication
- Responsible for planning and organization – assist the teacher in keeping records (attendance, observations, accident reports, etc.).

- Lead by example. Effectively and positively abide by CCS’s policies and procedures while working with all employees within the partner center.
- Attend all staff meetings, participate in required and recommended trainings, in-service, courses and other aspects of professional growth.
- Effectively partner with all employees of the partner school to foster a team focused environment dedicated to the development and well-being of the children
- Willingly perform a multitude of tasks necessary for the effective operation of the partner school with a positive “can-do” attitude
- Utilize a customer service focus in all you do both with the children, other staff members, and with the parents
- Accept the teacher’s suggestions for improvement and demonstrate flexibility and willingness to consider new ideas.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Assistant teachers must qualify under Division of Early Learning, Licensing, and Administration 2.216 QUALIFICATIONS FOR TEACHERS, SUBSTITUTES, STAFF AIDES, AND VOLUNTEERS
- Have a passion for children, their development and well-being, and the early childhood education profession
- Must be warm and have a friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, and be able to relate well to children
- Must be willing to fulfill his/her responsibilities in accordance with the center’s educational philosophy, goals, and mission
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
