What We Are Looking For :
The IT Infrastructure Automation and Support Engineer Intern will be responsible for completing a full automation project within the department of IT and specifically within the scope of Infrastructure. As an example it might be for onboarding of new employees and offboarding of employees companywide. Roughly 50% of their time will be invested into the automation project and the other 50% will be as follows; supporting users in all aspects of IT. They will be the first to act when a user encounters a hardware, software, or network issue. The Support Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the service desk and fielding incoming tickets. They will work directly with users and will escalate issues in the event that it is needed. The Support Engineer will also monitor and configure Active Directory and will be heavily involved with onboarding new users. This includes, but is not limited to, creating new user identities, new mailboxes, providing application access, configuring hardware and peripherals, and training new users on company procedures.
When the Infrastructure Intern is not working on ticketing / onboarding, they will work on other Infrastructure projects that relate to compute, storage, cloud environments, disaster recovery, network, inventory, patching, and documentation. This role will be exposed to all technologies that fall under the Infrastructure department so they can properly support and maintain all business functions within the company. This role reports to the Director of Infrastructure and Is required to be onsite 3 days a week at our Durham, NC headquarters.
What You Will Do :
- Complete a project that fully automates something with IT Infrastructure
- Service desk and fielding end user requests
- Monitoring the Remote Assist Teams channel
- Monitoring and responding to infrastructure alerts
- Onboarding
- Hardware provisioning
- Maintaining inventory
- Active Directory
- Office 365
- Monitors mail flow and mail policies within Proofpoint
- Patching of workstations and servers
- Creates and maintains up-to-date documentation
- Works / trains with senior engineers to get a better understanding of existing infrastructure
- Supports and maintains VDI environments
- Works closely with Security team to ensure proper security controls are met
