What We Are Looking For:
The Director of Investment Accounting will be responsible for leading a team that manages investment closing, accounting, analysis, and financial reporting for investment results in multiple regulatory jurisdictions. This role will also provide accounting guidance to investment managers for complex and emerging issues and create processes or procedures for our investment accounting platform. In addition to monthly close activities, the Director of Investment Accounting will be responsible for ensuring a strong internal control environment and regulatory reporting functions are effective and accurate. This role reports to the Controller and is required to be onsite 3 days a week at our Durham, NC headquarters.
What You Will Do:
- Manage a team of professionals and lead the oversight of our collaboration with our investment manager.
- Supervise investment accounting and reporting at the group level for multiple insurance companies in various regulatory jurisdictions. Create monthly/quarterly closing schedule and ensure all tasks are completed timely and appropriately.
- Play a key role in the Company’s financial reporting process including the preparation of the quarterly report and annual audited financial statements.
- Oversee day-to-day activities for investment accounting team by recruiting, coaching, and training of stuff accountants.
- Work closely with our affiliated asset manager to align investment accounting strategies and practices.
- Lead investment accounting system integration/implementation to our investment accounting platform for newly acquired insurance entities or asset classes.
- Research and provide accounting reporting guidance to investment managers for complex and emerging issues, such as GAAP/STAT and state/Bermuda regulations including structured and private assets.
- Respond to regulatory review letters/exams/audit requests by coordinating with investment operations and financial reporting.
- Manage custody bank and front office/external investment manager relationships.
- Other ad hoc assignments from group CEO/CFO/CIO etc.

Requirements
What We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of 10 years’ investment accounting experience and 3 years’ team management experience.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), statutory accounting theory and practice and reinsurance related experiences.
- Effective Analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Strong Interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access applications, Clearwater, or other similar investment accounting systems.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
