Job Summary
Aspire is a behavioral health care agency seeking Peer Support Specialist. Peer Support Services are structured and scheduled activities for adults age eighteen (18) and older with a diagnosis of Mental Health and Substance Use disorders. Peer Support is provided by Certified Peer Support Specialist in a community based setting. Aspire employs within all 100 counties in North Carolina. Peer Support Service is an individualized, recovery-focused service that allows individuals the opportunity to learn to manage their own recovery and advocacy process.
Responsibilities and Duties
North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist will provide:
- Assistance with personal goals for recovery through the use of one-to-one sessions
- Interventions to enhance the development of natural supports, as well as coping and self-management skills
- Interventions to provide supportive services to assist an individual in community re-entry
- Utilization tools such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to assist in creating individual wellness and recovery plans
- Assist with self-determination and decision-making
- Teach functional skills (managing meds, finances, health care, resources, daily living, etc)
- Model recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal action to encourage wellness
- Provide linkage to community resources
- Provide case management services
- Participate in team meetings
- Maintain and submit required documentation (treatment plans, service notes, service authorization requests, etc.)
Qualifications and Skills
North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialists who deliver services must:
- Self identifies as an individual with life experience of being diagnosed with a mental illness or substance use disorder
- Are well established in their own recovery
- Are currently in recovery and are stable
- Have a high school diploma or GED equivalency
- Supervised by a Qualified Professional (QP)
- Not a family member of the individual who receives Peer Support Services
Education:
- High school diploma or GED equivalency
License/Certification:
- Certified North Carolina Peer Support Certification (Required)
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
