The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction vehicles and equipment. The HD Mechanic reports directly to the Lead shift mechanic or the shop Foreman.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Inspect heavy vehicles and equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  2. Proficient with CAT ET/ Cummins INSITE/ Volvo Prosis.
  3. Proficient with after-treatment and electronic system repairs and troubleshooting.
  4. Prefer minimum 5 years Caterpillar/ Volvo heavy equipment experience and Cummins engine experience, also looking for specific experience with hydraulic rough terrain cranes from Grove, Link-Belt or Tadano.
  5. Repair heavy construction vehicles and equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, end dumps, front-end loaders, motor graders, tractor-trailers, vac trailers, water trucks, and other heavy equipment.
  6. Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering, and transmissions.
  7. Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools and instruments.
  8. Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes in accordance with maintenance schedules.
  9. Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency.
  10. Clean and maintain equipment, tools, and the general work area.
  11. Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  12. Supervise apprentice workers engaged in heavy vehicle and equipment repair work.
  13. Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  14. Support ACHC zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to comply with, understand, and support ASRC Construction’s safety culture to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. A minimum of five (5) years related training and experience required.
  3. A combination of training and experience may substitute the diploma requirement.
  4. Experience in the oil and gas industry and in the arctic environment preferred.
  5. North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification.
  6. A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License. 
  7. Current medical card or the ability to obtain in 6 months is required.

The work environment is in a busy construction setting.  The noise level in the work environment is usually varies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.
